Community Involvement
At Renewable Energy of Plum Hollow, we’re proud to be involved in a number of community initiatives and programs in Kingston and the surrounding area. Here’s some highlights from our recent activities.
Fall 2011
Brad is interviewed for the local cable company for their local cable show.
Spring 2010
Brad is interviewed by the local paper, The Kingston Whig Standard. The article speaks to our customer’s frustration over the length of time for the Ontario Power Authority to issue MicroFIT contracts.

Fall 2009
The Green Tech column in the Kingston Whig Standard ran a three part series on buying and installing a solar hot water system. The author, Cam Allen, walks the reader through the various steps involved. Check out Cam’s articles, they are very good:

Queen’s University developed an appropedia page titled: “Solar Photovoltaic Cells for the Kingston Home FAQ”. Brad is cited as one of the resources for the page.
Spring 2009
Brad was asked to write an article for the Kingston Whig Standard’s Project Energy supplement. The article, “Project Energy: How Much Can You Save?”, speaks to the environmental benefits of heating with wood and wood pellets.
Winter 2009
The Climate Action Group in Brockville asked Brad to come down and spend a Sunday in January speaking to its members about incorporating environmentally appropriate technologies into their homes. The St. Lawrence EMC covered the event.
The most popular and longest running sustainable-lifestyle magazine, MOTHER EARTH NEWS provides wide-ranging, expert editorial coverage of organic foods, country living, green transportation, renewable energy, natural health and green building. Lively, insightful and on the cutting edge, MOTHER EARTH NEWS is the definitive read for the growing number who choose wisely and live well. In February/March 2009, Brad is interviewed for an article called “Turn Waste Wood into Home Heat: Buy a Pellet Stove”.
October 2008
At the 52nd annual meeting and training sessions for the Ontario Building Officials Association, Brad presents a seminar on the code requirements for wood burning and pellet burning appliances.
June 2008
We had the privilege of having Dr. David Suzuki come to the store for a celebration and a ribbon cutting ceremony of our grid-tie solar array and wind turbine. A lot of folks dropped by for some snacks and some speeches from Brad, Utilities Kingston CEO Jim Keetch, investigative writer & environmental activist Paul Mackay, social entrepreneur Fabio Rosa and Dr. David Suzuki.

Fall 2007
Can you Say “Green Cheese”?
Let us introduce you to one of Canada’s premiere cheese factories, and it powered by wind and solar technology. We are the proud suppliers of renewable energy technology to Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Factory. Our company was featured in a local news paper article when we opened our location at 271 Dalton Avenue in Kingston.

Project Solar School
Project Solar School links solar energy to the Ontario Curriculum through practical applications, hands-on activities, and displays of photovoltaic cells. We were proud sponsors of this program.
1998
A Renewable Energy Case Study
A internationally recognized hearth industry consultant, John Gulland did a case study of integrating Renewable Energy technology to his home and office. It is a very interesting story. Start with the link below and follow John through his integration and implementation of renewable energy.
1994
The Rideau Environmental Action League conducts community-wide environmental projects and promotes environmental improvements within the Town of Smiths Falls and Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Counties. We have been proud supporters of REAL since 1994.
